Science World

Science World

Mundo da Ciência – Science World – is a science museum and one of the anchor buildings of the TechPark, which, together with the School of Sciences, forms a unique architectural complex. A civic square built on a sloped terrain is main access to all buildings. The cylindric shape of the museum draws attention for its formal lightness. The structure has been chosen in order to free the internal pavilion from any pillar so that large objects could be exhibited. An irregularly conic wooden covered auditorium sits on the right side of the square, surrounded by a reflecting pool. On the opposite side, the School of Sciences creates an interesting volumetric contrast with the other buildings. The project fulfills the highest standards of accessibility and sustainability
